ROCK SCORES A HAT TRICK

When 24m ROCK made its world debut at Monaco Yacht Show in 2018, the voluminous Vripack design was met with critical acclaim for being an SUV of the seas. Just two years on, and with the first and second hull already sold, the third hull is in build at Turkish shipyard Evadne Yachts. The seaworthy design has proven to be a real hit with quality-driven, adventure-thirsty owners.

One of the biggest aspects that truly appeals is the combination of a steel hull and aluminium superstructure in a yacht of this size, says Ali Sayakci, president of Evadne Yachts: “It would be easier and faster to build a 24m yacht in GRP or composite, but we spend time, energy and resources to custom-build the yachts in metal to ensure they are high quality, seaworthy vessels. The owner of hull number one spends long amounts of time on board, cruising vast distances in Cyprus and the Adriatic Sea, and he enjoys his yacht immensely because it’s a go-anywhere vessel with comfort and space.”
The svelte design of ROCK conceived by Dutch design studio Vripack is underpinned by expert naval architecture and belies the amount of interior space found on board, says Sayakci. “It’s a three-deck boat that looks like a two-deck boat in profile, and having a sleek aesthetic was one of our original requirements.” In fact, despite being built two years later, the owner of hull number three has requested only very few minor changes – or “incremental additions” - to the existing layout. These include an L-shaped sofa on the aft deck to make more of the generous entertaining space, and an innovative kite sail system that was retrospectively designed for, and fitted to, hull number one.

ROCK’s initial automotive design inspiration, more specifically, the curved structure of a Range Rover, remains a key draw for today’s owners, adds Sayakci. “When these fluid curves are blended with a functional, fully-engineered platform, the result is very much appreciated by yacht owners, because it derives from an aesthetic that resonates with them.”
Characterised by an enticing interior design, where textured fabrics and soft furnishings contrast with maple wood finishes and angular 3D shapes, ROCK truly serves as an inviting home from home. In addition to an interior that is akin to a contemporary loft apartment, ROCK possesses a high straight bow to intercept rough seas and a low aft for easy access to the water.

This masterfully designed continuous connection to the sea is a design detail that is carried throughout, explains Vripack designer, Robin de Vries. “We added a lot of glass on board, with full height windows that deliver uninterrupted views wherever you are on board. The dining area features one of the largest glass panels found on board a 26m yacht, providing panoramic vistas, while in the owner’s cabin a private terrace is complemented by a sweeping 180-degree view.” Three further guest cabins and a Jacuzzi on the sun deck complete the package. “On board the family will always be facing the sea,” adds De Vries. “That’s how we designed her.”

Now that ROCK has an existing and proven platform in place, Evadne’s build time is more efficient. And Vripack has been busy sketching a fully-fledged series to the success story.
