The global health crisis has done its worst to affect our lives for this past 12 months, so it’s highly encouraging to see cars on track at Daytona as the Rolex 24 Hours kicks off the sportscar classics.

Following on from last weekend’s Monte Carlo Rally, we’re seeing a ‘more normal’ season ahead of us. A limited number of fans are on site in Daytona this weekend, and I was really encouraged when I spoke to NASCAR’s executive vice president Steve O’Donnell yesterday that they’re planning the Daytona 500 to be the “largest sporting event that’ll have fans in the US” in a few weeks’ time.

Perhaps the best news of the week is from Australia, where their fantastically robust response to the pandemic means fans will even be allowed in the paddock for the Supercars opener at Bathurst next month. I’m very much looking forward to the day when every series gets to that point again.
