Highlights from Korea, and looking forward to Atlanta

Over 40,000 attendees enjoyed networking and learning about our organizations as they attended general and breakout sessions at the 2016 Rotary International Convention in Korea. Learn about Rotary’s achievements in the general secretary’s report to the convention and listen to an inspiring speech from Rotary President John F. Germ.

Next year, let’s celebrate The Rotary Foundation’s centennial at the Atlanta convention. Want to participate in a convention breakout session in Atlanta? You have many options:
  • Moderate a session showing how your district addresses community challenges
  • Join others to present innovative approaches to a global challenge
  • Share your strategic expertise with other Rotarians — volunteer to be a speaker
We’d love to hear your ideas for breakout session topics. Check out the call for proposals  or email conventionbreakouts@rotary.org for more information. Proposals are due by 23:59 Chicago time (UTC-5) on Monday, 19 September.

The Rotary Foundation turns 100 in 2016-17! Training Tip

Using visual metaphors

How do you present complex topics so learners can understand them? Present a visual image to show a concept or to convey the meaning you want the learner to adopt.

For example, to train participants on strategic planning, you may develop a visual road map that represents an idea advancing in the club over five years. Also, to explain the concept of fellowships, you could visually represent connectors from a fellowship topic (for example, music) and the various people (Rotarians, family members, alumni) linked by this common topic.

Using visual metaphors helps learners relate to complex concepts or ideas.
