Year of war in Ukraine tests ‘no limits’ relationship
Together with my team of brilliant and brave Guardian colleagues, I have covered the war in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion, documenting the horrors of the conflict in dozens of towns and cities across the country.

Covering a war is a challenging experience for a reporter. It means risking your life by going to bomb-ravaged places from which thousands of civilians are fleeing. It means writing our articles in bomb shelters, under the dim light of a candle due to the blackouts caused by Russian airstrikes. It means working as the fighting rages a few hundred metres away, and interviewing victims and civilians who have lost everything as the rockets blast above our heads. It also means travelling long hours by train and car and spending endless days in the freezing cold, together with our on the road team – our driver Oleg, our fixer and contributor Artem, and our security men – with whom we have created something very close to a family.

It’s our job as journalists to independently report facts, bear witness, and expose lies, but none of this is possible without you. Support from our readers enables us to produce this vital, round-the-clock reporting, and allows us to keep Guardian journalism open and free for everyone. If you can, please support us on a monthly basis from just £2. It takes less than a minute to set up, and you can rest assured that you’re making a big impact every single month in support of open, independent journalism. Thank you.
