Dear reader,

Today, we bring you details of an extraordinary, fascinating story that has just broken. Russian hackers have attempted to steal the UK's Covid-19 vaccine research, according to Downing Street. The accusations will fuel suspicions that Russia could have used stolen data to rush out its own unproven vaccine. Here's what we know.

When our Head of Culture, Serena Davies, returned to Britain’s flagship National Gallery earlier this month, she stumbled into the latest front in the culture wars – masks. After an uncomfortable and aggressive exchange with a fellow visitor, she has written about the new national anxiety. Don’t miss her column on ‘mask rage’.

What could the future of meat look like? Harry de Quetteville asks if changing habits and production methods mean the end for traditional meat-eating. In fact, meat as we know it could become a rare luxury, he writes, in this fascinating deep dive.

Finally, ITV has announced that it is casting aside football commentator Clive Tyldesley, who Jim White says remains a titan of his trade. Jim tells us that the broadcaster appears to have succumbed to a youth-at-all-costs recruitment policy that is also turning 5Live into an unlistenable gibbering wreck. What’s your take on the “odd” casting decision?

Chris

PS. The World Health Organisation is at the centre of the Covid-19 storm. But what is the history of this organisation? What do we know about its performance across the coronavirus crisis? We decode the organisation's troubles and triumphs in our new film. Watch it here.
