Temperatures and dew points will be on the rise this weekend.

Highs will be mainly in the 80s across the state Saturday afternoon, with some 70s in northeastern Minnesota. High temps ramp up a bit in the southern half of Minnesota on Sunday, reaching the upper 80s to lower 90s.

There will be plenty of rain-free hours at any given location this weekend. Many areas will also see some thunderstorms at times, with severe weather possible.

Metro Transit trying out shorter light rail trains in Twin Cities
Starting Saturday and running through mid-August, Metro Transit is running light rail trains in sets of two cars instead of three. Metro Transit spokesperson Drew Kerr said the goal of the change being tested this summer is to have police and community service officers more visible on the trains.
 
After more than two years, Canada to resume remote border crossing program
A program that allows travelers to cross into certain remote parts of Canada could resume as soon as Friday. The permits will allow canoeists to cross the border from Minnesota into Ontario’s Quetico Provincial Park for the first time in more than two years.

Now that former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin has been sentenced to federal prison , attention turns to the fates of three fellow ex-cops who are still working their way through a complicated web of state and federal court proceedings arising from the killing of George Floyd.
