Watch our short film above to find out more! Safety at Skateistan is about more than just putting on a helmet. It's about providing spaces where children can feel free from fear. A place where they're encouraged to play freely, to learn from their mistakes and to express themselves without judgement. Safe to Skate is now half way through and we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has already supported us. Because of people like you, children like Mony, Hashmat, Safia and Ethan know there is a place where they are safe to dream. Safia is 11 years old and lives in an internally displaced persons' (IDP) camp with her family in Mazar. They are not from Mazar, but they had to move from their home province due to conflict and fighting that made them fear for their lives. Safia had never been to school because it was too dangerous to make the journey in her hometown. There's no school in the camp and Safia's future looked bleak. But then she joined the Back-to-School program at Skateistan and completed grades 1-3 in a year. Now she's enrolled in public school and still coming to Skateistan because she loves to skate. Read Safia's full story over on our blog and find out how we made her feel safe to learn. SUPPORT: START A FACEBOOK FUNDRAISER There are many ways that you can help us to reach our campaign target of $200,000 by the end of the year. As well as making a donation yourself, you can also encourage others to do the same! A perfect way to support us is to start a Facebook Fundraiser. Your friends and family can donate directly through Facebook and Skateistan receives 100% of donations. Another way to help is to share our posts and the stories of our students on social media. In some countries, Instagram allows eligible nonprofits and their supporters to raise money directly through a donation sticker in Instagram Stories and donate button on Instagram. Head to Instagram to get started. You're receiving this newsletter because you're a friend or supporter of Skateistan, or you subscribed on our website. |
