Newsletter Headlines Ever since AORN officially recommended that bouffant hats be worn in the OR by all surgical team members, there has been a back-and-forth of testy statements and unsatisfying studies. But after participating in a task force that discussed OR attire, specifically ear and hair covering, AORN expects to make changes in 2019.  With their recent RCRA revisions, which could be adopted by every state within the next couple of years, the EPA hopes to have made the hazardous waste generator regulations easier to understand while also “providing greater flexibility in how hazardous waste is managed to better fit today's business operations.” Currently, the majority of U.S. hospitals and outpatient facilities do not use hand hygiene monitoring technology. Perhaps the increased surveyor focus on hand hygiene compliance and more success stories like the one experienced at Lutheran Medical Center in Colorado will encourage others to pay up for new technology.
