Broad industry coalition including WSC, TT Club, ICHCA and the GSF, jointly released a second FAQ document designed to support the smooth implementation of the container weighing regulations that take effect globally on 1 July 2016.

 

USCG: Random chemical testing requirements for mariners

USCG published a new Marine Safety Advisory to restate and reemphasize the importance of a properly administered and applied random chemical testing program to prevent drug misuse as a causative factor in marine casualties.

 

Japan Club warns of customs fines in Ukraine

The Japan P&I Club has obtained additional information of the customs fine in Nikolaev port from their correspondents in Ukraine. Huge fines are imposed by the Customs officers in Nikolaev for failure to declare the ship’s stores and any goods on board.

EU approves deal for more transparent and competitive ports

On 29 June 2016 the Council's Permanent Representatives Committee approved new rules to increase the financial transparency of ports and create fair conditions for access to port services across Europe. It confirmed the agreement reached with the European Parliament on 27 June.

ABS issues guide for enhanced cargo tank cleaning

ABS has published its guide for enhanced cargo tank cleaning applicable for vessels intended to carry oil in bulk and vessels intended to carry chemical cargo in bulk.

EU to accept antitrust offer from 14 container liner shipping companies

Maersk, MSC along with other 13 shipping firms are set to escape possible penalties as EU antitrust regulators plan to accept their offer to end a five-year probe. The European Commissions will likely announce its decision next month

New OBP report explores piracy’s impact on seafarers

A new joint report by OBP and OEF Research, both programs of the One Earth Future Foundation explores the long-term impact of piracy on seafarer and family recovery. It is based on a series of interviews and structured surveys collected from 465 seafarers in India, the Philippines, and Ukraine.

 

Drones used on Aurora Australis to navigate sea ice

Drones were used for the first time to help the ship Aurora Australis navigate sea ice in the 2015 -16 summer.
