The Saints have taken fans on a weird and wild ride to 4-2, but that’s about as good a record as we could have expected considering the injuries and general chaos that have surrounded the team this season. Thanks to Hurricane Ida, the Saints have only played one game in the Caesars Superdome through seven weeks. Yet, here they are. With the win, the Saints took sole possession of second place in the NFC South behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-1). There are 10 more games on the schedule, but the Saints would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Monday night’s 13-10 victory in Seattle is a game that won’t be looked back upon as one of the best of the Sean Payton era, but it does give Payton’s squad three consecutive victories over the Seahawks. Any win over Seattle is a sweet one for the Saints, and Payton will be thrilled to head home with a victory in one of the toughest stadiums to play in. Some fans may fret over the inconsistent performance of the Saints’ passing attack, but only so much of the blame falls on the shoulders of quarterback Jameis Winston. His receivers didn’t always help him out. As a team, the Saints did just enough. It’s unlikely we’ll see many blowout wins out of the Saints like the one they put on the Packers in the season opener, and that’s just fine by Payton and crew as long as they’re walking off with a win each week. Next up, Tampa and Tom come to town. |
