Good morning, and welcome to the Wednesday, October 18 edition of the Saints Insider Newsletter. Here's what we have for you on this short week of work as the Saints try to rally for their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night at the Superdome... Injury to insultWhen it rains, it pours. As if the Saints don’t have enough problems to deal with on offense, they now have a manpower issue. An injury spree along the offensive line could force them to play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night without two key starters. “It is what it is,” is how center Erik McCoy put it. “You’re going to have to man up. Or somebody else will.” Desperate timesInjuries caused the Saints to play musical chairs against the Texans. Guard Cesar Ruiz ended up playing tackle for the first time in his career. "It's definitely interesting," Ruiz said with a smile. Rod Walker has the story. Potentially more bad newsIt's that time of year when the walking wounded are starting to multiply. A defensive star was a new addition to the Saints' injury report on Tuesday, along with a bunch of offensive linemen. Wounded JagThe Saints aren't the only ones with injury issues. Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence is nursing a sprained knee, and his playing status for Thursday night is uncertain. The Saints, though, are preparing as if he'll play, reports Luke Johnson. Going 'inside' the offensive issuesI chopped it up with colleagues Zack Ewing, Luke Johnson and Rod Walker on the latest Saints Insider podcast, where we discussed in detail the myriad issues, facing the Saints offense in the wake of their loss to the Texans. Rod had a great take on the situation: "The Saints need to fix the Saints." That's all for today. Our crack coverage team will be back at practice on Wednesday as the Saints wrap up preparations for the Jaguars game on Thursday. Until next time, Jeff Duncan |
