Saints show they are fun, feisty ... and flawed

Welcome to the weekend and the September 12 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. Let's break down the big stories from the Saints' nail-biting Week 1 win, shall we.

Fun, feisty, flawed

That was columnist Jeff Duncan's take on the Saints after taking a closer look at their Week 1 win against the Tennessee Titans. The Saints showed a little bit of everything — good and bad — and that was a little to be expected.

As Duncan wrote in his column: "Buckle up, there will be more days like Sunday to come. A season of cliffhangers awaits."

Listen for the knock

It's easy to look at the guys performing on the field and think of them as just that, people who exist only as players in a game that entertains us.

But they are people, too, who go through difficult challenges normal people go through. Just take Demario Davis, for example, who less than 48 hours before playing an outstanding game against the Titans was left fearing for his daughter's life.

It's worth your time to read Davis' telling of the tale here, and then read about his teammates having no idea what Davis was going through.

Turner to need surgery?

It's looking an awful lot like Payton Turner's bad injury luck is continuing. The third-year defensive end appeared in his 14th career game Sunday, and it appears he suffered an injury that's going to keep him out a while.

Could that open the door for a rookie who was a healthy scratch against the Titans? Maybe so.

That's all we have for today. Thanks, as always, for your support.

Cheers,

Luke Johnson
