The poinsettia's journey from Mexico to holiday staple

The poinsettia, famous for its holiday presence, actually came from southwest Mexico, and the Aztec and Mayans used it for medicinal purposes. American diplomat Joel Poinsett admired the plants that were placed in churches in Mexico during the holidays and brought them to Charleston, S.C. to study and grow.
