One year ago this weekend we published one of the most successful books in our travel literature series. Tharik Hussain’s Minarets in the Mountains is his account of a journey with his family through the indigenous Muslim communities of the Western Balkans. It looks at a part of the world that rarely makes the news and attempts to redefine what we think of as ‘Muslim Europe’.

 

The book went on to be shortlisted for the Stanford Dolman Travel Book of the Year and longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction (which rarely honours travel books). It was picked as a Book of the Year in the Washington Post, New Statesman and Times Literary Supplement and enjoyed fantastic reviews elsewhere.
