Good morning

There's no doubt the news agenda today, and quite possibly for a few more to come, is firmly focused on the battle for the White House. As the story unfolds we'll be bringing you insight into how the result will affect Northern Ireland in these Brexit times.

Closer to home, Sam McBride reveals that MLAs will be unable to debate and vote on the current sweeping restrictions until they have almost ended. Last night, after the News Letter asked Assembly Speaker Alex Maskey questions about the issue, his officials revealed that the legislation will finally be debated next Monday - just four days before the restrictions will end.

Staying with politics you can read the second part of civil servant Sinclair Duncan’s memoir of the 1970s, which is being published every day in the News Letter this week
