Santee Cooper, Westinghouse reach equipment settlement

An agreement finalized Aug. 28 will give Santee Cooper ownership of all non-nuclear equipment associated with the V.C. Summer nuclear project. Santee Cooper and Westinghouse will split net proceeds from the sale of nuclear equipment.

International Paper Co. investing $175M in Eastover mill

The investment by the Tennessee-based company during the next 10 years will help with costs as well as environmental and maintenance initiatives. The mill has approximately 700 employees and an annual economic impact of $90 million.

S.C. Stimulus Research Program announces 2020 projects

Under the S.C. Stimulus Research Program, state universities are delving into projects ranging from replacing damaged blood vessels to transcending the boundaries of lithium ion batteries. The program began in 2017.

Commerce Department awards $8.2M to 8 S.C. organizations

The U.S. Department of Commerce is granting $3.2 million in coronavirus relief to eight organizations across the state, helping to bolster their economic development efforts during the pandemic.

EnviroMix, a Charleston-based company which makes water and wastewater treatment systems, has been acquired by GEF Capital Partners. The global investor will gain controlling interest in EnviroMix’s wastewater technology.

Biblestore Outlet will open its second S.C. branch on Sept. 10 at 5410 Sunset Blvd. The ministry of OM Ships International opened a Florence store last June. The Lexington store has openings for a full-time manager and other staff.

Hayne Hipp served as the CEO of Liberty Corp. for 27 years and helped launch the Urban League of the Upstate and Public Education Partners, among other initiatives. He also served as the CEO of Liberty Corp., a publicly-traded insurance and media company founded by his grandfather Frank Hipp, for 27 years.
