Dear Reader,
The murder of Sarah Everard shocked the nation, not least because Wayne Couzens abused his position as a police officer to commit the appalling crime. We have a minute-by-minute timeline of how he plotted the unspeakable act – and tried to cover it up. But justice caught up with him and Couzens will die in jail after the judge today sentenced him to a rare whole-life term. Read Robert Mendick’s reconstruction here.
At long last, the new James Bond film is released in UK theatres today. In his five-star review of No Time to Die, our Film Critic Robbie Collin describes the joy and relief to have Daniel Craig back in his extravagantly satisfying final film as 007. The Duchess of Cambridge stole the show on the red carpet at the premiere, dazzling in a golden caped gown. Our gallery has pictures of all the best-dressed stars.

The Labour Party conference had been criticised – much like leader Sir Keir Starmer – for being too “beige”. Luckily for Sir Keir, his glamorous wife, Victoria, added some colour to the event as she wowed crowds in Brighton yesterday. Associate Editor Camilla Tominey explains why Lady Starmer could be the Labour leader’s secret weapon.
Finally, the fuel crisis led to queues, rows and fisticuffs, but it also threw up some moral quandaries. What would you do if you caught your neighbour selling stockpiled petrol for a profit? We answer our reader’s dilemma.
