| Human remains found in search for missing Sarah Everard |
| |
| | | A week after the disappearance of 33-year-old Sarah Everard on her way home from a friend's house in Clapham, south London, officers searching for her have found human remains. Detectives are still working to confirm the identity of the remains, discovered in woodland near Ashford, Kent, after the arrest of an officer from London's Metropolitan Police on suspicion of Ms Everard's kidnap and murder. The force's Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick says news of a serving officer's arrest has "sent waves of shock and anger through the public and through the whole of the Met." Our home affairs correspondent Daniel Sandford says if an officer does prove to have been involved there will be a "very strong sense of betrayal" throughout the Met. Searches in relation to the investigation continue in south London and Kent. | |

| Society of Editors boss Ian Murray resigns |
| |
| |
| The boss of newspaper body the Society of Editors is stepping down amid a row over its reaction to the Duke of Sussex's comments about racism in the media. The organisation had been criticised for saying Prince Harry's description of tabloids as "racist" and "bigoted" was "not acceptable" without evidence. Executive director Ian Murray says he's stepping down to allow the organisation to "rebuild its reputation". He says the society's statement was in no way intended to defend racism but "could have been much clearer in its condemnation of bigotry". | |

| Cancer patients 'less protected' after first jab |
| |
| |
| Cancer patients are much less protected than others against Covid-19 after one dose of the Pfizer vaccine, King's College London and Francis Crick Institute research suggests. A study measuring the immune response of 205 people - 151 with cancer - found 43% of those with solid cancers and 8% of those with blood cancer who had received one dose were protected five weeks later. That compares with 100% of those without cancer. Among cancer patients who received the second dose three weeks after the first, as originally recommended, the figure was 95%. Cancer Research UK says the study has yet to be reviewed and people should continue to follow GPs' advice. | |

| | | | | Every few weeks, Sophie Fagg visits her sister Lucy and shares the latest twists and turns in her life - including the details that would likely have been used as ammunition for gentle, sisterly jokes. "She liked to make fun of me, as sisters do," she says, standing by Lucy's grave in Sturry, Kent. The "bubbly" 16-year-old, an avid Liverpool fan and competitive angler, took her own life in March 2020. For Sophie, then aged 19, life changed forever in an instant. | |
