Sasol Chemicals of Westlake to pay $1.4M to EPA

Welcome to another edition of the Acadiana Business Newsletter. On to today's headlines....

Sasol Chemicals, a large chemical manufacturing facility adjacent to the majority-Black community of Mossville near Westlake, has agreed to pay $1.4 million in civil penalties to the federal Environmental Protection Agency to settle allegations involving an October 2022 fire that resulted in a shelter-in-place order for the Westlake area.

The settlement also addresses other violations the company was found to have made of chemical accident prevention rules during inspections and record evaluations of the plant from January through July 2021.
