Paul McCarthy worked at Ford as an Economist for 30 years. His last position at Ford was in Customer Analytics working on marketing program evaluation and customer communication analytics. Prior to that he led the analytic governance process supervising teams in the U.S., India, and Europe; was the Senior Economist in Global Risk Management at Ford Credit; and spent nine years as a research economist with Ford’s Corporate Economics and Strategic Issues office. Paul holds a patent on a Method for Assessing Equity Adequacy, and another patent on Automated Vehicle Loan Payment Reminders. He received his Economics Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of Michigan. Currently, he is heading up McCarthy Analytic Consulting.
Paul McCarthy’s presentation provides an economist’s perspective on demand, supply, and the connection between new and used vehicles gleaned from over 25 years of modeling at Ford and Ford Credit. He will make a case for an alternative perspective on leasing and used vehicle price dynamics, and highlight the importance of financing conditions on vehicle demand. His overall framework will help in understanding recent developments, while also shedding light on how the market may evolve with the rollout of electric vehicles.
