Save big on orchestral concerts and comedy theatreDeals galore to usher in October
Get 2-for-1 London Symphony Orchestra ticketsAnyone for a bite-size chunk of Beethoven? Half Six Fix — a series of hour-long concerts from the London Symphony Orchestra — is back at the Barbican. This autumn, it’s putting the spotlight on two great German composers born centuries apart, and we’ve scored you 2-for-1 tickets (meaning you can bring a friend along to either concert for free!) On Wednesday 30 October at — you guessed it — 6.30pm the LSO perform Beethoven’s witty and elegant Symphony No.1. As with all Half Six Fix concerts, your evening begins with an introduction from the conductor (this time it’s Thomas Adès), who’ll share some background on the piece and let you know what to listen out for — so no stress if you’re totally new to orchestral music! Then, it’s time for 60+ LSO musicians to shine, with big screen close-ups of individual performers giving you added insight into the mechanics of an orchestra. Then, at 6.30pm on Wednesday 27 November, attention turns to contemporary classical composer, Helmut Lachenmann. In this LSO performance of My Melodies (Music for Eight Horns and Orchestra), you’ll encounter an array of unconventional instrumental techniques — including whistles, scrapes, and whispers — alongside eight solo horns. Conductor Ivan Volkov will then lead the orchestra through excerpts from Beethoven’s Symphony No.7. Each event is over by 7.30pm, leaving you with plenty of time to grab dinner or drinks. All the more reason to take advantage of our 2-for-1 ticket offer and make a proper outing of it. Just use the code LDNIST241 at checkout to redeem.
