Young peoples’ lives have changed significantly over the past 50 years, and will no doubt look very different 50 years from now. But what's it like to be a young person today?
The new Youth Progress Index, recognised as the most comprehensive measurement of young people's wellbeing worldwide, paints a grim picture for Europe’s youth.
The Commission President, Ursula Von der Leyen, closed this year’s State of the European Union speech by highlighting the need to create a continent where young people can be their true selves, reach their full potential, reconcile with nature, lead in new technologies, and thrive in freedom and peace. Thus, it is crucial to have measurements to assess whether or not these aims are indeed fulfilled.
On the 18th of October, the European Youth Forum will release the third edition of the Youth Progress Index. Our results provide a deep dive into the state of young people’s wellbeing, access to rights, and quality of living. The detailed country-by-country review reveals that Europe made nearly no progress since 2019 (the year of the last European elections), and it is second-worst only to North America, where youth progress is in decline.
The launch event for the Youth Progress Index, bringing together academics, politicians, and experts, is an important milestone in creating a better continent for young people. Join this event to understand why the EU is stagnating when it comes to youth progress and what paradigm shift we need to improve youth well-being.
The 2023 results focus on : 1) The impact of social exclusion on young people mental wellbeing 2) Young people’s political rights 3) The Impact of fiscal policy on youth wellbeing.
