Good morning, Marketer, and how’s it going so far?

At time of writing, the hopes that we were all sharing for a better and brighter 2021 may need to be put on hold for the time being. No matter how distracting and disturbing the news cycle, however, we all continue to lay out our best plans for the year ahead.

In that spirit, I add my personal welcome to Carolyn Lyden, who is joining the Third Door Media family as content lead at Search Engine Land and SMX. I look forward to working with her to uncover yet more synergies and shared ground between search marketing and the broad range of marketing operations which is MarTech Today’s beat.

Whatever happens, 2021 is going to be another year of rapid and disruptive digital transformation, and search will play a critical role. Welcome, Carolyn.

Search Engine Land, SMX name Carolyn Lyden content lead

Search Engine Land, the sister website of Marketing Land and MarTech Today yesterday named Carolyn Lyden as content lead, both for SEL itself, and the SMX Search Marketing Expo and Conference series.

She most recently ran her own agency, Search Hermit, where she specifically set out to help women- and BIPOC-owned businesses improve their presence and performance in search.  Prior to that, Carolyn worked as an SEO manager for call analytics software company CallRail, where she led SEO and analytics initiatives. It was through her work at CallRail, that she was named a 2018 finalist for Search Marketer of the Year in that year’s Search Engine Land Awards.

She joins SEL coming off of a 2020 that forced many businesses to take seriously how important search is for connecting with customers. Having an experienced practitioner leading the content and programming of Search Engine Land and SMX will only mean more high-quality and actionable content for the communities SEL serves at a time when they need it most.

Deliveroo partners with Button

Deliveroo, the international food delivery service serving markets in  Europe, Asia and Australia, has adopted Evolution, a product suite offered by Button, the mobile commerce intelligence vendor.

Button aims to support business growth for brands and publishers, while providing an enjoyable mobile commerce experience for consumers. Deliveroo plans to use the Evolution suite to measure the effectiveness of affiliate marketing, and the impact of specific offers and discounts. This should aid better management of budgets for affiliate marketing, and a better understanding of ROAS.

Deliveroo also expects a better understanding of the effectiveness of partnerships with individual publishers.

The technology that's saving retail businesses from going under

Sponsored by Lightspeed

The pandemic is changing the game for retail, and fast. Not only is the competition fiercer than ever before, but the coronavirus has been the cause of a dramatic decrease in in-store traffic.

While the situation has forced some companies to shut down, many have realized that if they want to break through and maximize profits, they will need to adapt to more flexible business models with the adoption of new technologies. In order to remain competitive, online and offline experiences must “wow” the consumer. Having a great product is not sufficient to satisfy today’s buyer profile.

The secret sauce for these struggling businesses lies in the ability to combine in-store and online shopping to create an omnichannel retail strategy to provide the best possible experience all around, without having to choose one or the other. In today’s modern economy, the inter-connected customer shouldn’t have to choose either.
