COMET to play host to online transit system academy

The COMET Academy will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the Midlands’ transit system. Applications are being accepted for the free, online program, to be held Mondays from Sept. 28 through Oct. 26. 

Former IT security director sentenced to 2 years in prison

Terry Shawn Petrill of Myrtle Beach sold network switches intended for Horry County use to third parties, according to the U.S. attorney. Petrill pleaded guilty to theft of federal funds and also must pay back more than $340,000.

N.C. grocery chain to buy 20 stores in S.C. market

Alex Lee Inc. has entered an agreement to purchase 18 Bi-Lo branded stores in South Carolina and two in the Augusta metro area. The company owns Lowes Food stores, among other brands. The deal is expected to affect 2,000 employees.

Peace Center postpones Broadway season

Greenville's Peace Center has rescheduled its Broadway lineup this fall and spring in hopes that shows will return full swing in early 2021. The center has canceled almost 395 events since suspending performances in mid-March.

Rubber meets the road as Be Pro Be Proud program launches in S.C.

The workforce development program celebrated its launch in South Carolina with the unveiling of a custom-built, 53-foot 18-wheeler outfitted with state-of-the-art video and gaming technology showcasing skilled trades. The truck will tour S.C. middle and high schools to educate students about the career benefits of in-demand jobs in fields such as construction, welding and electrical work.The program is modeled after one pioneered in Arkansas in 2016.
