FINAL FRIDAY: Jon Batiste packed upward of 40 musicians, singers and dancers onto the main stage Friday for a joyous, New Orleans-centric closing set at the 2023 Jazz & Heritage Festival. SUFFERING SO YOUNG: The case of Tyrone Stewart, a New Orleans man accused of repeatedly pouring scalding water over the head of his girlfriend’s young daughter, showcased the challenges for prosecutors trying child abuse cases: family members pitted against family members, and jurors being asked to weigh the credibility of a 5-year-old. It also represented another example of a child who suffered significant harm after Louisiana’s beleaguered Department of Children and Family Services was alerted to problems in her home.
MORE FOR MULKEY: A month after winning the national championship, the LSU women’s basketball team has landed another impressive recruit: DePaul transfer forward Aneesah Morrow. Her commitment to the Tigers comes barely a week after former Louisville point guard Hailey Van Lith, widely considered the top available transfer, announced plans to join Kim Mulkey’s program.
