Senate boosts PPP with thousands of S.C. loans approved

After the first wave of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funding ran dry by April 16, the U.S. Senate approved a $320 billion boost for the program and an additional $60 billion for small business disaster loans Tuesday night.

MUSC performs Lowcountry’s 1st COVID plasma treatment

Physicians at the Medical University of South Carolina have successfully infused the first COVID-19 patient in the Lowcountry with convalescent plasma. Convalescent plasma is taken from people who have recovered from a disease, in this case the coronavirus, and have antibodies to the disease in their blood.

DHEC releases data on S.C. nursing home cases of COVID-19

A Berkeley County rehabilitation center has 57 confirmed cases among residents and staff, while a Columbia facility has 29, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. DHEC has been gathering data since April 3.

Bon Secours offers COVID-19 plasma treatment

The Bon Secours St. Francis Health System has joined ranks with Prisma Health in offering investigative COVID-19 treatment using plasma from recovered patients. One donation can aid up to four patients with the disease.
