More than half of U.S. households have completed census

The latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that 53.2% of U.S. households have completed the 2020 census, including 48.1% in South Carolina. York County has a state-best 58% response rate.

Cooperative effort brings 1.5 million masks to Greenville

A Scotsman in Greenville called some people he knew, causing about 1.5 million face masks from China to land on a tarmac at GSP. “The full story of it would probably read like a movie script,” said Neil Ferrier, owner of an industrial design company.

Avocet to bring majority of employees off furlough

Avocet Hospitality Group is returning more than 100 of its furloughed employees to work this week to complete online training courses to prepare the company to reopen its hotels and restaurants. Employees will begin online training Wednesday, with topics focused on minimizing the risk of spreading or contracting the coronavirus.

Richland County approves more than $1 million in grants

Richland County Council has approved a grant relief program for small businesses and nonprofits affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The application process for grants opened Monday and ends June 30.

S.C. receives annual share of tobacco settlement payments

The state received more than $75 million in an annual payment stemming from 1998’s Master Settlement Agreement, according to the attorney general’s office. Since 1998, South Carolina has received more than $1.66 billion in payments.
