Reopening plans approved for 14 S.C. school districts

S.C. Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman has now approved reopening plans for every public school district in the state. Richland School District Two was among the schools to have plans approved Monday.

Office vacancy up, but market remains healthy

Office vacancies rose 1.3 percentage points over the first quarter, but even at 8.75% the Charleston market is significantly healthier in comparison to the last downturn when vacancies hit as high as 20%, according to a Lee & Associates report. With more supply and interest rates at a record low, it’s a buyer’s market.

State leaders see recovery in manufacturing and trade

While the hospitality industry is making a slow recovery statewide, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Dan Ellzey, executive director of S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, argue that the Palmetto State’s manufacturing sector and reopening schedule have helped keep its economy above water.

Silgan Containers expanding Lancaster County operations 

The $9.7 million investment is expected to create 16 jobs during the next five years. The company makes metal containers for shelf-stable food and general product lines.

ScanSource sells some Latin America products businesses

Greenville-based ScanSource, known for products and services such as card scanners at retail sites, will sell most of its Latin America products businesses, except for those in Brazil.

Engineering firm renews Huger Street lease

Michael Baker International, a tenant at 700 Huger St. for 10 years, has renewed its lease in a transaction brokered by Trinity Partners.
