The S.C. Asphalt Pavement Association’s workforce development campaign is encouraging people to consider careers in the asphalt industry. Demand for workers is increasing with new projects funded by the state’s gas tax increase.

Researchers receive $1.24M for wind turbine project

Clemson University researchers in North Charleston received funding from the Department of Energy to develop a new way of testing equipment on offshore wind turbines. The researchers will work to temper the effects of climate change in the Dominion Energy Innovation Center.

Land sold in Spartanburg’s West Main Street corridor

Blackstock Development LLC has purchased two acres of land along W. Main Street in Spartanburg. The company is assembling several opportunity zone parcels with plans to renovate or repurpose existing buildings, according to a news release.

Carolina Cafe’s West Columbia location sold

The location near Lexington Medical Center has been sold to another local restauranteur who will change the name and menu, Carolina Cafe’s co-owners announced. The downtown location’s menu will be tweaked to include daily specials.

Champion Aerospace signs youth apprentices

It was signing day recently for a couple of Pickens County students. They didn’t sign to play any kind of sport, but to work as youth apprentices at Champion Aerospace in Liberty. The apprenticeship program will combine on-the-job learning and job-related education.
