PPP application opens for smallest businesses

The U.S. Small Business Administration opened an exclusive PPP loan application for businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 20 employees. The 14-day exclusivity window gives sole proprietors, independent contractors and the country’s smallest businesses a head start in the race for additional PPP funding.

Aldi US aims to become 3rd largest grocer by 2022

The German-owned discount grocery chain Aldi may have a smaller physical footprint than other supermarket competitors in the Upstate, but that could work in the company’s favor as it tries to become one of the most widespread grocers in the country. The chain's new Mauldin store will serve residents of the incoming city center project.

PGA Championship to limit capacity to 10,000 a day

PGA of America will welcome fans back to the annual event for the first time since 2019, but will cap crowds at 10,000 a day. The decision was made with health officials amid the ongoing pandemic. Spectators will be chosen based on time of purchase, inventory and more, and will be notified via email.

Carolina Panther owner donates $150M to Wofford

Jerry Richardson, founding owner of The Carolina Panthers, gifted $150 million to Wofford College, his alma mater, for need-scholarships and student needs. Richardson’s life-long contributions to Wofford College exceed $262.6 million.

Former SCANA CEO pleads guilty to fraud charges

Kevin Marsh pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud related to the failed V.C. Summer nuclear reactor project. Marsh faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
