S.C. adds 800 construction jobs in December

South Carolina added 800 construction jobs in December 2019, part of an increase of 3,500 for the year. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the state ranked 11th in the nation in December job increases.

Port selling Daniel Island property

The S.C. Ports Authority is selling an approximately 106-acre property on the west side of Daniel Island that it has owned since the late 1990s. The property was a proposed site for a container terminal that ultimately never happened, according to port leadership.

Students at Greenville Technical Charter High School learned last week their school is one of 17 in the country selected by American Airlines to receive a Flight Education Grant, designed to inspire aviation’s next workforce.

In 2019, S.C. residents filed 44,526 fraud complaints with the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Consumer Protection, resulting in nearly $1.74 million in refunds.

Lowcountry leaders to renew civilian-military partnership

Lowcountry leaders and Col. Terrence Adams, commander of Joint Base Charleston, will renew the charter for the Lowcountry Defense Community Partnership Council on Friday. The council’s goal is to grow the military value of Joint Base Charleston and to support the economic vitality and quality of life of the greater Charleston community.

Event raises funds for heavy equipment operator training

Last fall Vulcan Materials Co. spearheaded efforts to raise more than $66,000 to support Tri-County Technical College’s heavy equipment operator training program. Vulcan, in conjunction with 50 industry partners across the state, raised $66,561 at its second annual South Carolina Clay Shoot at the Clinton House Plantation.
