Florida firm acquires Spartanburg residential development

Quinn Residences, a rental real estate operating firm based in Coral Gables, Fla., recently purchased a single-family residence community in Spartanburg, with plans for a significant expansion in the months ahead.

Loan program application deadline extended to Dec. 31

Applications for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program for the COVID-19 pandemic will be accepted pending availability of funds for the loans, which include an interest rate of 3.75% for small businesses and 2.75% for nonprofits.

County business license renewal deadline is March 15

With Richland County offices closed because of COVID-19, all businesses, including home-based ones, must renew their licenses online or by mail by March 15. The county recently mailed renewal applications to about 10,000 businesses.

Preservation and conservation grants now available

The application deadline for the Richland County grants, worth up to $50,000, is Feb. 5. Nonprofits, neighborhood organizations, governmental agencies and other organizations can apply for the grants, which require a 20% match.

SCDA accepting hemp farming applications for 2021 season

South Carolina farmers can now apply to grow hemp for the 2021 growing season through Feb. 28. Applicants must apply online, show proof of residency and attend an orientation. In 2020, South Carolina received 350 applications for prospective hemp growers, which must undergo an annual criminal background check.

AFL plows ahead with Upstate high school workforce program

Fiber optic cable manufacturer AFL and Spartanburg Community College recently welcomed 14 students from Byrnes High School into an ongoing training program for a career on the factory floor. The program is in its fourth year since launching in 2018.
