DHEC issues COVID-19 guidelines for businesses

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has issued guidance and strategies to help businesses make informed decisions related to the new coronavirus. South Carolina had 28 positive cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday evening.

State price gouging law in effect

Declarations of emergency activated South Carolina’s law against price gouging. S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson said “normal price increases” are to be expected.

SBA disaster loans may be available as soon as two weeks

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s district director estimates that federal economic injury disaster loans may become available within two weeks to a month for businesses impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Charleston to begin using Citibot app

The city of Charleston plans to use the software platform to give citizens another way to communicate with municipal officials. Citibot allows citizens to use text messaging to interact with their local governments; locally, North Charleston and Charleston County also use the software.

The estimated number of people working in South Carolina grew to a record 2,330,683, up 4,665 from December 2019. Unemployment, however, edged upward in every S.C. county.
