State solid waste taxes must now be paid electronically

The S.C. Department of Revenue electronic mandate went into effect on March 1. South Carolina’s solid waste tax applies to the sale of motor oil and lubricants, tires, lead-acid batteries, and white goods such as refrigerators.

BMW top U.S. auto exporter by value for sixth year

BMW Manufacturing is the country’s largest auto exporter, when measured by dollar value, for the sixth consecutive year. The Spartanburg-based plant exported $9.6 billion worth of vehicles last year, sending 246,014 X-models out of the country.

Judge dismisses I-526 lawsuit disputing use of sales taxes

A Richland County circuit judge has dismissed a lawsuit that challenged Charleston County’s use of two, half-cent sales tax referendums to fund the extension of Interstate 526, ruling that the Coastal Conservation League lacks standing. The nonprofit had argued that using money from the sales taxes violates the will of the voters and takes money away from other transportation projects that the taxes were meant to fund.
