S.C. unemployment claims approach half a million

For the week ending May 9, 32,513 residents filed initial claims, bringing the total in the last 8 weeks to 486,149. The week was the fourth straight with a drop in claims, with 14,234 fewer than the previous week.

Patriots Point delays reopening

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, which had been scheduled to reopen last Friday, will remain closed as a precaution against COVID-19 and because the museum did not receive the necessary approval from the S.C. Department of Commerce. Patriots Point is required to file an exemption request with the state to open while restrictions are in place. Executive Director Larry Murray said in a news release the museum will work with the state to set a new reopening date.

Liability a main focus of S.C. Chamber of Commerce plan

The four-pronged reopening and recovery plan for state businesses also addresses workplace safety, tax reform, and workforce and education concerns. 

Greenville releases reopening guidelines, bilingual resources

Greenville’s Business Recovery Task Force reported its initial guidelines (.pdf) for reopening the local economy and also helped launch a Greater Greenville Pledge site geared toward Hispanic business owners, lapromesadegreenville.com.
