Lowcountry businesses to develop plan to reopen economy

Government and business leaders from across the Lowcountry are collaborating to establish a plan to reopen the region’s economy after COVID-19. Reignite is being led by One Region, a strategic group led by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

Task force to study reopening of S.C. schools this fall

AccelerateEd, a 12-member task force convened by S.C. State Superintendent Molly Spearman, is chaired by Kathy Coleman, director of Clemson University's Sandhill Research and Education Center. It held its first meeting Thursday morning.

Michelin, Greenville Tech gift critical-needs supplies

Michelin North America donated more than 25,000 surgical masks to AnMed Health Thursday, while Greenville Technical College held a critical supplies drive for the Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.

2 downtown Charleston restaurants close permanently

The Neighborhood Dining Group is permanently closing McCrady’s and Minero, attributing the decision to changing market dynamics brought on by the coronavirus. President David Howard said the restaurant group plans to reopen its other Charleston restaurants as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Volvo to reopen plant May 11

Volvo Cars is planning to reopen its Ridgeville plant on May 11, almost a month later than it initially planned. The company closed the production site on March 26 because of the coronavirus with plans to reopen April 14. Volvo extended the closure, however, to protect the health of employees. A company spokeswoman did not provide further details about the reopening plans. Volvo employs approximately 1,500 people at its Berkeley County plant.
