BMW is back to the production line

Plant Spartanburg reopens its doors and ramps up production again Monday after a month of empty lines and deep cleaning. New procedures include temperature self-checks, modified seating, staggered meal times and enhanced sanitation.

Benefitfocus lays off 250 people

Charleston-based Benefitfocus said it is laying off 17% of its U.S. workforce, a total of 250 employees, in response to the impact that COVID-19 is having on its business. In addition, all raises and promotions have been suspended, as has hiring for all noncritical positions. Executive pay has also been reduced.

Home or work order lifted; outdoor dining allowed

An April 6 executive order limiting travel has been lifted, and S.C. restaurants will be able to provide outdoor dining services beginning Monday. State officials encourage individuals at risk for COVID-19 to limit exposure to others.

Patriots Point to reopen May 15

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will reopen May 15 with several improvement projects completed during its closure induced by COVID-19. Only self-guided tours will be available; educational programs, guided tours and overnight camping operations remain suspended.

The new public service announcements aim to increase awareness among at-risk groups and to encourage people to help prevent the spread of the virus. Current videos feature U.S. Rep. James Clyburn and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.
