S.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority awards 24 grants

The S.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority has awarded $10.8 million in grants for 24 projects in 19 counties. The projects include improvements to water, sewer and stormwater capacity statewide.

Caggiano named Oconee Economic Alliance director

Annie Caggiano has been named executive director of the Oconee Economic Alliance. She replaces Janet Hartman, who announced in July she was leaving the post to move to California with her family.

Summey wins 7th term; Charleston headed to runoff

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey secured a seventh term in Tuesday’s elections while the Charleston mayoral race heads into a Nov. 19 runoff between Mayor John Tecklenburg and District 8 Councilman Mike Seekings. Dorchester County voters approved $68 million for new parks and recreation facilities and libraries.

Spartanburg Community College, United Way get $2M workforce grant

Spartanburg Community College and the United Way of the Piedmont have received a $2.1 million grant to combat the Upstate’s technical labor shortage. They received the grant from the U.S. Department of Labor Workforce Opportunities in Rural Communities program.

Cooking up careers: USC program pairs workers with opportunity

The University of South Carolina’s Culinary Institute Certification Program has begun accepting GI Bill benefits to help funnel qualified workers into S.C.’s restaurant and food service industry.
