Charleston port receives shipment of 3 new cranes

The S.C. Ports Authority received three new, 155-foot cranes Thursday at the Columbus Street Terminal. The cranes, made by China-based Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., are bound for the Wando Terminal. They are scheduled to pass under the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge over the weekend.

REI Automation expanding Richland County operations

This is the fourth expansion of REI Automation’s assembly facility on Veterans Road in Columbia. The $3 million investment is expected to create 35 jobs.

Hotel part of larger plan for downtown Anderson

The announcement in September that construction had started on a Home2 Suites by Hilton in downtown Anderson is part of a larger plan for development in that area, according to David McCuen, Anderson city manager, who said the hotel project was three years in the making.

Charleston City Paper under new ownership

The weekly alternative newspaper was purchased by City Paper Publishing LLC, a partnership of Charleston School of Law President Ed Bell and Charleston-based publisher Andy Brack. Blair Barna, one of the three co-founders of the paper, will remain advertising director, and the other two founders will serve as consultants to the newspaper.

Pair of Columbia streets to lose access to North Main

North Main Street access from Lamar Street and Fern Avenue is now closed as part of a road-widening project. The project is also establishing a new traffic pattern at a nearby intersection and improving drainage.
