What's with the cone-headed sculpture?
COVID déjà vu: If you have a kid in school there’s a chance they’ve already been asked to quarantine -- or will be soon. Schools are again starting a new year against a backdrop of surging COVID cases. But this year, one superintendent says, “It feels like déjà vu on steroids.” Troubling details: The Coast Guard recently wrapped up 10 days of hearings into the Seacor Power disaster off the Louisiana coast that claimed 13 crewmembers during fierce storms. John Simerman offers this recap of what we learned. Cone of uncertainty: This time of year we’ve always got an eye on severe weather. And right now we’re watching two storm systems: Fred, which could land on the Florida coast later today, and Grace, which could be in the Gulf of Mexico in the coming days. Cone of art: A papier-mache sculpture popped up at a Riverbend intersection last week. Shaped like a conehead, the artwork naturally grabbed the attention of our Doug MacCash, who takes special delight in this kind of thing. Also in the news: A St. Bernard Parish School Board member, Darleen Asevedo, died this weekend of complications from COVID. And Jefferson Parish authorities said this morning a man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Marrero is in custody. Hope you enjoyed Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us.
