The National Weather Service said a “significant” winter storm is becoming more likely for south Alabama today. Several school systems have announced changes to their schedule for this week in anticipation. Precipitation — snow, sleet, freezing rain, or a wintry mix — will begin in southwest Alabama this morning and continue through the day, moving eastward. However, it’s still not clear how much snow can be expected. Transportation will still be hazardous, with forecasters warning that roads could be icy into Wednesday. |

Trump keeps TikTok alive in U.S. with executive order to suspend ban |

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday to keep TikTok operating for 75 days, a relief to the social media platform’s users even as national security questions persist. TikTok’s China-based parent ByteDance was supposed to find a U.S. buyer or be banned on Jan. 19. Trump’s order could give ByteDance more time to find a buyer. The platform went offline before the ban approved by Congress and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court took effect on Sunday. After Trump promised to pause the ban on Monday, TikTok restored access for existing users. |

ABC 33/40’s James Spann shared more of his thoughts Monday night on news that Allen Media Broadcasting “laid off every single meteorologist” in cities nationwide in favor of the Weather Channel. The company, which operates 27 broadcast television stations in 21 U.S. markets, has announced plans to begin using “local weather coverage powered by The Weather Channel across local markets nationwide.” That includes WAAY in Huntsville, where meteorologist Amber Kulick posted: “I am still at the station but I am looking for my next career opportunity.” |
