By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor The East Baton Rouge school system is telling teachers they'll lose their jobs at the end of the school year despite their being openings at several schools. The district is eliminating positions, and telling those currently holding them that they're welcomed to apply for, or be assigned to, other locations. The move comes despite the district enjoying solid finances.
The St. George Fire Department in southeastern Baton Rouge has been around since I was a kid. At the trial over the creation of a new city of St. George, the chief says crews could easily serve the area, and that his agency and the Baton Rouge Fire Department work well together to keep people safe. The trial is expected to wrap up later today.
Mourners said good-bye yesterday to fallen deputy Nick Tullier. Gov. John Bel Edwards was among those delivering remarks at the emotional funeral. For some, making sense of his life was easier than contemplating his death.
