Dame Judith Hackitt: Removing the blinkers why is it so difficult? Before chairing HSE from 2007-2016, Dame Judith spent more than two decades working in the chemical industry at a time when tragedies such as Piper Alpha forced the industry to recognise the importance of building and maintaining public trust and confidence. In this year's lecture, Dame Judith will reflect on that journey and draw parallels with the built environment sector as it faces new and tougher regulation in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. In particular, the lecture will look at what gets in the way of cross-sector learning and how we might help construction industry players make faster progress by opening up to learning lessons and ways of tackling the issues from other sectors. Join us on Tuesday, 10 May at 4.30pm Watch the lecture live on YouTube | ThePROTECT COVID-19 National Core Studyis an HSE led, UK-wide, research programme improving understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted from person to person, and how this varies in different settings and environments. Public transport has been widely perceived as a high-risk sector for transmission of the COVID-19 virus, due to large numbers of people travelling in close proximity in enclosed spaces, often with limited ventilation. Thispublic transport sector evidence report summarises the evidence currently available on COVID-19 infection and mortality among employees in the public transport sector, as well as risk factors for infection and infection control measures in this sector.
