The recording of this year's seminar is now available to watch online. HSE's 2023 Annual Science Review launch seminar features HSEs scientists and engineers as they present 5 minute Turbo Talks on their work featured in this years review. Watch the 'Turbo Talks' launch seminar on YouTube HSE is proud to support our women mathematicians and promote the role of women in the mathematical community. Today isWomen in Maths Day, and we're highlighting the work of just some of the range of women employed by HSE in mathematical disciplines. Heidi Edwardsand Molly Marshall-Ridley HSE Statistical Analysis and Advice Team Heidi and Molly have recently implemented a quality review of HSEs fatal injury statistics resulting in efficiencies in the way data is gathered and validated. Heidi says: "As a government statistician, I love using statistical analysis to uncover the insights buried within data and communicating this analysis in a way that is accessible and impactful. It is highly rewarding to see these results inform public policy decisions that ultimately help keep people healthy and safe at work." Hannah Tarplee and Kirsty Forder HSE Data and Spatial Analysis Team
Hannah and Kirsty recently authored a case study which describes their work to develop an optimised data repository to help inform HSEs Land Use Planning advice around major accident hazard pipelines. Describing how maths is an integral part of her role, Hannah says: "Dealing with geospatial data requires the use of mathematical models to represent the shape and area of geographical features on the earths surface. These models are further developed to analyse real world problems, such as the location of major hazard sites near to populated areas and the terrain these areas are found within".
