The Cancer Association of South Africa No images? Click here Screening to SaveDONATE HEREResearch has shown that limited knowledge of symptoms, misconceptions, stigma and shame around cancers and screening cause dangerous delays in going for screening, and seeking appropriate care. This is why CANSA's awareness campaigns around cancer in men and women plays a vital role in early detection and lowering cancer risk. By making an online donation to support our campaigns, you could literally save lives. Our Mobile Health Clinics travel from region to region bringing screening and awareness to rural areas, dependent on funds or income secured for this particular activity. A lady was diagnosed with breast cancer at our Mobile Health Clinic. After her mastectomy, she was totally overwhelmed to be given a breast prosthesis by CANSA. She told Sr. Suz Nel, CANSA Volunteer, “Thank you so much, now I feel whole again”. Doesn’t it feel good to make a difference in someone’s life? You can through your contribution… CANSA's employee wellness programmes bring affordable screening and cancer education into the workplace, where busy employees who might otherwise have neglected going for cancer screening have the opportunity to assess their cancer risk. Monica Khumbane, Office of the Director Department of Correctional Services, says of her experience, "I never went for any test, never. They sent me an email saying this is the day now. That's when I decided no, let me get tested. She did the Pap smear and then she also did the physical test on my breast. She felt a lump. I couldn't sleep at night, thinking I'm going to die. The doctor called me and she said to me, you don't have cancer, however you've got cysts, but she was able to remove the cysts immediately. This is a great initiative, I wish that everybody could attend. I have decided that it's good to know. If you know your lifestyle changes, everything changes. Even though I do not have cancer, but I am taking good care of myself, because of that process that I went through." Your online donation will help us to reach more men and women in the workplace with affordable screening... A regular service at all CANSA Care Centres is our Outreach Programme where we visit places of business, community centres, church groups, retirement homes and educational institutions. The day’s events usually include a talk on what it means to follow a Healthy Lifestyle and usually we set up a display with posters and pamphlets. Depending on the nature of the audience on the day we’ll offer appropriate screening opportunities – clinical breast examinations and Pap smear for women, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests to detect signs of prostate cancer, FotoFinder skin checks and advice on giving up smoking. We’re always welcomed with enthusiasm and our discussions arouse great interest. Our audiences are very grateful for the screenings. We are thankful for your ongoing support that makes this service possible... We urge you to visit your local CANSA Care Centre today and arrange for cancer screening - early detection saves lives! WELLNESS VIDEOWin-winThere are two ways in which your donation to CANSA will also benefit you. The first is by claiming your donation when submitting your tax return each year, and reducing your tax payment. The second is by including CANSA as a beneficiary in your Will. This costs you nothing now, but will reduce your estate duty. The biggest and most rewarding ‘win’ though, is in helping others through our many services.
