Scripture in Pictures

When Scott Hayes was a teenager, he took an image-based memorization method and developed it for the entire New Testament. Hayes got to the point where he could describe any chapter in the New Testament based on the one image he’d designed for it.

Now, years later, Hayes is the publishing director for Eastern European Mission (EEM), a ministry that gives the Bible to people in formerly Soviet-controlled countries. Hayes partnered with graphic artist Fred Apps to produce 499 drawings—two for every chapter—to illustrate the New Testament.

“My desire was to provide something that will encourage them to read and slow them down a little bit,” Hayes told CT. “I hope the illustrations might help people think more about the New Testament.”

EEM released the images under the Creative Commons license, which means anyone can download them all for free. May these illustrations—whether we print them as coloring pages for little ones, put a few on the refrigerator, or use them as a memorization system—help us to treasure the Scriptures.
