Decorate a Vase Like a Doll
If you have extra, empty vases, cover them with cloth of your choice. Place a heavy object in bottom to keep the vase from falling over. Buy Styrofoam craft balls or doll heads to fit in the vase opening. Add facial features to Styrofoam balls.
Multi-tasking: Crafting on the Phone
I never seem to have enough time to do everything. So I keep a basket next to my TV chair containing everything I need to do hand sewing, mending, sewing on buttons, hemming, and so forth.
Wicker Plate Holders for Crafts
There are quite nice wicker plates that are made to hold paper plates. I have found lots of them at yard sales, and never pay more than 25 cents each for them. I use them for craft projects, but of course, they work well for their original purpose.
Worn Out Cuffs? Make A Short Sleeved Shirt
My husband works in an office environment and wears long-sleeved shirts every day. When the cuffs start getting frayed, but the rest of the shirt is still fine I make a short-sleeved shirt by cutting off the bottom part of the sleeve and hemming it up on my sewing machine. By Betty
Storing Embroidery Floss
Here is a use for an old Velveeta box and lid. Cut thin pieces of cardboard slightly smaller then the width of the Velveeta box. Wrap embroidery floss around the cardboard and store in the box. Makes it easy to organize colors.
Sharpen Pins with Your Pin Cushion
Make a pin cushion using steel wool as the stuffing. The steel wool will sharpen pins. Use corduroy, felt, or suede as the material for your pin cushion.
Organizing Yarn When Making A Hook Rug
Take a yard of material and fold 3/4 of it up and sew in squares like a shoe organizer. Use this for your yarn when making a hook rug. You can tape the number and the color of thread on each square so you can use it over and over with each rug.
Thread Spools and Bobbins
Something I have started to do is keep my bobbin and matching thread spools together for easier access.
