In an ever-brighter world, tourists travel north for truly dark skies

The fourth annual Dark Sky Festival begins Thursday evening in Cook County in far northeastern Minnesota, a region increasingly known for its astrotourism, and a chance to see truly dark skies in an ever-brightening world.

WNBA star freed in U.S.-Russia prisoner swap. Russia has freed WNBA star Brittney Griner in a dramatic high-level prisoner exchange, with the U.S. releasing notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Art Hounds: Music for dancing, theater and a recreation of a popular Moorhead live venue.  The Hounds this week say you should get your dance on at the Minneapolis Afrobeats Dance Party at the Cedar Cultural Center. Watch Minneapolis Musical Theatre’s production “Striking 12,” based on Hans Christian Andersen’s story, “The Little Match Girl.” See Ralph’s Corner Bar, the Moorhead music venue that closed in 2005, come to life in an exhibit at the Hjemkomst Center.

St. Paul’s Hmong Cultural Center celebrates 30 years. For three decades, the center has been helping Hmong community members with vital services as well as educating others about Hmong history.

Demographer: Minnesota has one of the tightest labor markets in the U.S. and it's unlikely to change. Minnesota’s workforce shrank during the pandemic which was no surprise. Businesses shut down, sometimes permanently and the sharp rise in the burden of child care, education and other family obligations hit women particularly hard.

Christmas ornament honors gingerbread White House tradition. This year's Christmas ornament from the White House Historical Association honors the tradition of displaying a gingerbread model of the executive mansion as part of the holiday decorations at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
