Employers worried about workplace violence when an employee is fired should hire a plainclothes guard, instead of a uniformed guard, because the latter "raises the emotional temperature," says Steve Albrecht, co-author of "Ticking Bombs: Defusing Violence in the Workplace." Employers should never assume they are immune to workplace violence, says Kathleen Bonczyk, executive director of the Workplace Violence Prevention Institute.
