Three months into the U.S. bird flu outbreak, only 45 people have been tested and clinical labs aren't approved to detect the virus. They complain of slowness and uncertainty from the CDC and FDA. Jennifer Nuzzo, director of the Pandemic Center at the Brown University School of Public Health, says “We’re flying blind.” With too few tests among farm workers, we can't tell how many are infected or how serious it is. Without more testing, we might miss if the virus starts spreading between people, risking another pandemic. As the outbreak grows — with at least 114 herds infected in 12 states as of June 18 — researchers said the CDC and FDA are not moving fast enough to remove barriers that block clinical labs from testing. For those wanting to stay ahead of this potential health threat, we recommend adding Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) to your Jase Case today, as it will only be harder to get after an outbreak has occurred. |
